NPD has finally released it’s January monthly numbers for the United States. There aren’t too many surprises in places but Wii has set another record in hardware. Here’s the hardware and top 10 software:
Wii- 679,200
NDS- 510,800
360- 309,000
PS3- 203,200
PSP- 172,300
PS2- 101,200
Wii has obviously set a January record for consoles and by a lot. DS has another killer month while 360 stays solid. PS3, on the other hand, continues to struggle. PSP falls down the same path while Sony’s most successful hardware eve, PS2, is finally starting to fall out. Not good for Sony when if you pick either of Nintendo’s hardware to compare to the Sony platforms combined and they still fall short.
However, hardware isn’t everything so let’s check out the top 10:
1. Wii Fit- 777,000
2. Wii Play- 415,000
3. Mario Kart Wii- 292,000
4. Left 4 Dead- 243,000
5. Call of Duty: World at War (360)- 235,000
6. Skate 2 (360)- 199,000
7. Guitar Hero: World Tour (Wii)- 155,000
8. New Super Mario Brothers- 135,000
9. Mario Kart DS- 132,000
10. Lord of the Rings: Conquest (360)- 113,000
Wii claims the top 3 out of the top 10 and along with GH: WT in 7th spot. 360 claims the next 3 out of the top 6 along with LOTR: Conquest at #10. Rounding the rest out are 2 evergreen DS games from Nintendo. Not a single PS3 game made the top 10. America is definitely leaning towards the 3 platforms represented in the top 10.
